When comparing the specifications of the Insta360 X5 with the X4, there are not many changes. The resolution and fps are the same and the storage capacity too. The biggest difference is in the battery life. Insta360 has developed an extra economical recording mode. They call this Endurance mode, with which you can film for 50 minutes longer. This mode does film with less fps. So the real battery life, when you film in 8K, will be the same. In addition, you can film deeper underwater with the X5 without an underwater housing. You can now film up to 15 meters deep.

So, in terms of specs, not a whole lot has changed. However, there are a lot of different features that further differentiate the X5 from the X4.

New features of the Insta360 X5

The Insta360 X5 has a number of new features to improve ease of use and your videos, including better images in the dark, interchangeable lenses and a wind guard for the microphone.

Better images in the dark

Just like the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, the X5 now also has PureVideo, but of course in 360 degrees. PureVideo is a video mode that uses AI to reduce noise in low-light conditions. This gives you much sharper images in the dark. So if you often want to shoot images at night, PureVideo is a very useful feature.

Interchangeable lenses

The lenses of the Insta360 X5 can be replaced, this was not possible with the X4. Suppose you got scratches on the lens of your Insta360, you could not do anything about it. From now on you can replace the lens yourself in no time. Previously you always had to use a lens guard and a lens cover for your Insta360, this is still strongly recommended, but in any case it is no longer the end of your Insta360 when it gets a scratch.

Microphone wind guard

You know how it is, you're recording somewhere, but there's a strong wind blowing. Chances are that half of your recording will consist of wind noise. Insta360 has developed a new wind guard for this. This allows you to bounce down on your bike or snowboard at full speed and the sound remains crystal clear. This allows you to give live commentary during your coolest stunts, without it being unintelligible due to all the wind noise.

Instaframe mode

Normally when you film with the Insta360, you get a complicated 360 degree video file, which you have to edit yourself before you get a normal flat image. For this, Insta360 now has Instaframe mode. This allows you to select a flat image before you start filming. This means you don't have to edit afterwards and you immediately have an image that is ready to share.

The Insta360 X5 has many new features that you can use. However, not all of these new features will be relevant to every user. In addition, the specifications have not changed that much. As a result, the difference for the general user will be relatively small. The battery life is only longer in the special endurance mode, the water resistance is easily solved with a waterproof case for the Insta360 X4 and in addition, the features that have been added are mainly for niche applications.
