Weight

Gewicht

The weight of a power bank is important to consider. Nobody wants to carry around an unnecessarily heavy power bank, especially if you often carry it in your pocket, purse, or backpack. This article explains the average weight of different power bank sizes and the reasons for the weight differences.

Weight per size

  • Small power banks: Small power banks with a capacity of around 5,000 to 10,000 mAh often weigh between 100 and 200 grams. Think of small, compact models with a plastic casing.
  • Regular power banks: Power banks with a capacity of 20,000 mAh weigh between 300 and 400 grams. These power banks weigh a bit more due to their large battery.
  • Large power banks: Large power banks range from 500 to even 800 grams, thanks to their extra capacity, and often have metal casings with fast-charging features. These are the most powerful power banks and can often charge your smartphone or even your laptop several times.

What causes the weight difference in a power bank?

  • Capacity: The more mAh, the larger the battery. These also weigh more; a small power bank can hold 10Wh, while a large one can hold up to 100Wh.

  • Casing & material: This often depends on the material used to make the power bank. For example, a power bank made of plastic will automatically be lighter than one with a metal casing.

  • Additional technology: The additional technology such as fast charging circuits, multiple ports and pass-through charging costs space and weight.
