Low-current mode

Low-current mode

Some devices require very little power to charge. Think of wireless earbuds, a smartwatch, a fitness tracker, or other small accessories. Especially for these types of devices, a low current mode on a power bank can be very useful.

What is Low-current mode?

Low current mode is a special feature on some power banks that delivers a low and stable charging current. This is important because small devices often require much less power than a smartphone or tablet.

In standard charging mode, a power bank might sometimes think that hardly any device is connected. As a result, it automatically stops charging. Low current mode prevents this problem. The power bank then remains active and can charge devices with low power consumption effectively and consistently.

Why is this useful?

Many modern power banks are primarily designed for larger devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or cameras. However, small devices draw so little power that a regular power bank sometimes terminates charging too early. With low current mode, the charging process continues, ensuring that these small devices are also properly charged.

When do you use Low-current mode?

You mainly use low current mode when charging devices with low power consumption, such as:

  • Wireless earbuds
  • Smartwatches
  • Fitness trackers
  • Small Bluetooth devices
  • Some bicycle lights or other compact USB accessories

Are you charging a smartphone, tablet, or other larger device? Then low current mode is usually not necessary.

How do you activate Low-current mode?

Not every power bank supports low-current mode. Therefore, always check first if your power bank has this function.

How to activate the function varies per model, but usually, it works in one of these ways:

  • Press and hold the on/off button for a few seconds
  • Press the button twice quickly in a row

On some power banks, you will then see a light or icon indicating that the mode is active.

Good to know

Low-current mode is primarily intended for small devices. If you use this mode for larger devices, charging is often slower or the function is not necessary. For daily use with a smartphone, you can therefore usually just use the normal charging mode.

Summary

Low-current mode is a useful feature for charging small devices that require little power. Without this function, a power bank may sometimes stop charging too early. With low-current mode, the power bank remains active and even small power consumers are reliably charged.
